PROGRESS REPORT, October 27, 2010

For those of you that are interested in keeping up with the progress we've made for Hatch Photography 2011, here is an update.

First of all, the Board is fully in place with Craig McAnsh in charge of it - Craig has already put enormous energy, time and enthusiasm in his role at running the helm, and last week they hired Big Bridge as the marketing agency for Hatch. This is great news as we can do a better job of explaining what Hatch is all about through media and an improved website.

As for photography specifically, Brie Castell (photographer and owner of the Castell Gallery) has agreed to co-chair the photography discipline with me, and that is a huge help. Also Diana Stoll, who was involved last year on our panel and is senior editor of Aperture Magazine, has been actively involved by fielding suggestions for mentors. Diana is thinking BIG, and has agreed to take on the job of approaching mentors from our wish list. We will also be calling for Groundbreakers to work with the mentors, but that will come much later.

I am planning to put together another night time projection as we did last year, and am investigating different venues for that. We would like to have a theme that is more specific than last year and we will put out a broader call for entries since we have time to plan for it this year. Stay tuned for info on this and feel free to offer ideas on themes. f

Another idea that we are working on is a "community photo project" where individuals can submit one image and have it printed on a large format printer and have it displayed - we are hoping to get a sponsor for this. I would like for this to be in a space that the public can browse and participate in. There will also be a theme for this project as well, and file size requirements so that we aren't getting low res iphone photo files!

There will be workshops and panels that will be formulated once we know who our mentors will be.

We may show films about photography - please submit any suggestions you have.

Finally, I'm working on a project that is an inter disciplinary project that will culminate in the production of an actual structure that I will create a stop motion video of to show during Hatch. Stay tuned for details on that.

We will need lots of volunteers to work at the various sites, to jury images for the slide show, to field submissions from groundbreakers, to photograph things going on, to drive mentors around and a lot of other things, so be thinking of what sort of time you are willing to give and in what capacity. Hatch is going to be April 14-17, 2011. For those of you who have not been, there are workshops, movies and panels during the day and networking events/parties at night.

LOOKING FOR SPONSORS

Does anyone have any contacts with Epson or Canon? We want to see if either company would sponsor the community photography project we discussed. The idea is not completely hashed out yet, but we are still wanting to turn the wheels a bit.
